Ashwaganda is a calming adaptogen that helps the body manage daily stress by reducing cortisol.
In animal and human studies, ashwagandha root was found to stimulate the thyroid, making it useful for hypothyroidism. Ashwaganda enhances endocrine function, especially helping to re-regulate the thyroid, testes, adrenal glands.
Because of its nervine and adaptogenic functions, ashwagandha is very effective for anxiety, fatigue, cloudy thinking, stress-induced insomnia, and neurasthenia (nervous exhaustion). It helps with chronic fatigue immune deficiency syndrome, and autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and polymyositis (autoimmune inflammation of voluntary muscles).
Astragalus is an antioxidant to aid in regulating the immune system. It strengthens the lungs and helps prevent colds, influenza, bronchitis, mononucleosis, pneumonia and infection by coxsackie B virus (the major cause of mycocarditis).
Helps prevent immunosuppression caused by chemotherapy and has tumor-inhibiting activity. In a Chinese studies, astragalus combined with ligusticum fruit (licorice root) increased survival times in patients with breast and non-small-cell lung cancer.
Regular use of this root has been shown to prevent kidney and liver damage caused by medications and viruses.
Siberian ginseng is an adaptogen to assist with memory and cognition. It strengthens the immune system, and regular use will reduce the incidence of colds and other common infectious diseases.
It increases endurance and stamina, enhances mitochondrial activity, speeds recovery and prevents immune-depletion from excess training in athletes. It can be combined with cordycepts, rhodiola, or schisandra for enhancing athletic performance and for improving alertness and cognitive function when under severe stress or when working long hours.
It can be used for type A people who work long hours, don’t get adequate sleep or nutrition, and have a motto of “work hard, play hard, and hardly sleep.” It acts like a nervine to improve the quality of sleep and prevents nighttime waking.
Siberian Ginseng can also be used for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), chronic fatigue immune deficiency syndrome, jet lag, and adrenal fatigue.
Maca is a plant root that increases energy and improves mood due to being nutrient rich in vitamins C and A as well as B2, B6 and Niacin, and high in minerals, including iron, zinc, iodine, calcium, copper, magnesium and potassium. Maca has shown help lift depression and deliver a boost of natural energy, while also fighting cell stress, aging, and cancer. Maca also improves memory and learning.
Maca has been asscociated with reducing the risk of prostate cancer, shown to help with bone strength and density and have a positive effect on wound healing.
Studies show Maca reverses Antidepressant-Induced sexual dysfunction in women, as well as an ease in hormonal symptoms. For men, Maca naturally helps erectile dysfuntion and male fertility.
Hebanthe eriantha, commonly known as “Suma” or “Brazilian ginseng,” is a plant found throughout South America. Suma’s root have been used in traditional medicine for centuries and have a wide variety of potential health benefits for the brain, immune, and digestive systems. It also boosts energy, protects vital organs, increases hormone synthesis, and may even fight cancer.
Suma is an adaptogen, which means that it improves the body’s ability to cope with stress and provides resistance against diseases and various harmful biological and environmental factors.
Suma root may be a potent anti-cancer supplement. However, in most of the studies, suma generally appears to slow down the rate of tumor growth, but not reverse or cure it altogether. Therefore, while suma may help prevent cancer and slow its progression, it should not be mistaken for a cancer cure.
Ecdysteroids from Suma plant act like anabolic steroids, the hormones involved in building muscle. Ecdysteroids can enhance physical strength and athletic performance without the negative side effects associated with traditional steroids.
Choline is an organic, water-soluble compound. It is neither a vitamin nor a mineral.
Choline is an essential nutrient, meaning it’s required for normal bodily function and human health. Though your liver can make small amounts, you must obtain the majority through your diet.
However, it is often grouped with the vitamin B complex due to its similarities. In fact, this nutrient affects a number of vital bodily functions. It impacts liver function, healthy brain development, muscle movement, your nervous system and metabolism.
Choline is required to produce acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in regulating memory, mood and intelligence. It’s also needed for the process that synthesizes DNA, which is important for brain function and development. Choline intake is associated with improvements in brain function.
Cacao is an antioxidant that contributes to overall wellbeing. It’s especially abundant in flavanols, which have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. A study in adults given high-flavanol cocoa found blood flow to the brain increased by 8% after one week and 10% after two weeks of consuming cacao regularly.
Another study discovered that drinking high-polyphenol cocoa improved calmness and contentment. The positive effects on mood may be due to cocoa’s flavanols, the conversion of tryptophan to the natural mood stabilizer serotonin, its caffeine content or simply the sensory pleasure of eating chocolate. One study on chocolate consumption and stress levels in pregnant women found that more frequent intake of chocolate was associated with reduced stress and improved mood in babies.
Cocoa is also one of the richest sources of polyphenols. Polyphenols are naturally occurring antioxidants found in foods like fruits, vegetables, tea and chocolate. They have been linked to numerous health benefits, including reduced inflammation, better blood flow, lower blood pressure and blood sugar levels. This effect was first noted in the cocoa-drinking island people of Central America, who had much lower blood pressure than their non-cocoa-drinking mainland relatives.
